WEST TEXAS VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: District 3-5A Race Heats Up and Big Wins Highlight the Weekend 🏐🔥

The weekend gave us another look at just how competitive volleyball is going to be across West Texas this fall.

District 3-5A took center stage with a battle of unbeaten teams as Frenship handed Tascosa its first district loss, while Amarillo High remained perfect with an impressive sweep of Lubbock-Cooper. Coronado and Memorial also picked up important district victories as the standings continue to take shape.

Outside of district play, Randall survived two incredibly tight sets before sweeping Liberty, Canyon bounced back with a convincing win over Shallowater, All Saints took down Lubbock Christian, and New Home went the distance with Merkel before falling by just two points in the fifth.

AMARILLO HIGH STAYS PERFECT IN DISTRICT. 🏐🔥

Amarillo High continued its unbeaten run through District 3-5A Saturday, defending its home floor with a straight set victory over Lubbock-Cooper.

The Lady Sandies had to battle through a tight opening set before taking control. After escaping the first 25-23, Amarillo High dominated the final two sets to finish off the sweep and improve to 4-0 in district play.

FRENSHIP WINS THE BATTLE OF DISTRICT UNBEATENS. 🏐🔥

Something had to give Saturday as Frenship and Tascosa entered the day unbeaten in District 3-5A play.

The Tigers took control early, winning the first two sets 25-20, but Tascosa refused to go quietly. The Lady Rebels survived a marathon third set 29-27 to extend the match before Frenship answered in another tight fourth to close out the road win.

Coronado picked up another District 3-5A victory, sweeping crosstown opponent Lubbock High in straight sets.

The Lady Mustangs grabbed a competitive opening set before taking complete control in the second. Lubbock High battled back in the third, but Coronado was able to close out another 25-20 set and finish the sweep.

Memorial continued its push through District 3-5A play with a straight set victory over Palo Duro.

Memorial controlled the opening set before Palo Duro made things interesting in a tight second. Memorial found a way to finish that set 25-22, then pulled away in the third to complete the sweep.

Randall picked up another impressive win, sweeping a shorthanded Liberty squad in a match that was much tighter than the final 3-0 result might suggest.

The Lady Patriots pushed Randall beyond 25 in each of the first two sets, but the Lady Raiders found a way to win the biggest points. After surviving those two battles, Randall created separation in the third to finish off the sweep.

New Home and Merkel went back and forth for five sets Saturday, with the Lady Leopards ultimately coming up just short on the road.

After dropping the opening set, New Home answered with a 25-18 win in the second. Merkel grabbed the third, but the Lady Leopards responded again in the fourth to force a deciding fifth. New Home battled to the finish before Merkel escaped with a 15-13 win to close out the match.

All Saints picked up a big four set victory over Lubbock Christian, bouncing back from a second set loss to take the final two and close out the match.

After splitting the opening two sets, All Saints regained control with a convincing 25-15 win in the third. Lubbock Christian pushed back in a tight fourth, but All Saints found the final points it needed to finish the night with a 25-23 win.
