West Texas Volleyball Roundup: District Races Kick Off Across the Region

Tuesday night brought another action-packed slate of volleyball across West Texas as district play kicked off in 4A and rivalries sparked competitive battles. From dominant sweeps to five-set thrillers, teams across the South Plains and Panhandle showcased grit, depth, and determination. Here’s a look at how the night unfolded on the court.


District 3-5A


Tascosa Lady Rebels at MontereyA

The Tascosa Lady Rebels stayed perfect in district play with a dominant sweep on the road at Monterey (25-11, 25-12, 25-10). The win moves Tascosa to 4-0 in district, while Monterey drops to 3-2.

Leading the way for Tascosa were:


  • Gabbie Mason – 9 kills

  • Avery Scalf – 8 kills

  • Bennet Berryman – 18 digs

  • Addison Merrell – 17 assists


Next up, Tascosa will host Amarillo on Saturday with the district lead on the line.

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies continued their dominant district run with a sweep of Lubbock High (25-9, 25-7, 25-11). The victory moves AHS to 17-9 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in district play.

The Lubbock Coronado Lady Mustangs stepped away from district play and kept their momentum rolling, earning a four-set home win over the Frenship Tigers (25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21). The victory adds to a strong winning streak for Coronado as they continue to build confidence down the stretch.

The Liberty Lady Patriots opened District 5-4A play in dominant fashion, sweeping Frenship Memorial 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-12). The win sets the tone early for Liberty as they chase a 3rd straight district championship.

Big Spring Lady Steers vs. Estacado


Big Spring bounced back after dropping the opening set to Estacado, rallying for a four-set win (25-27, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19). The victory gets the Lady Steers off to a 1-0 start in district play.

West Plains Lady Wolves vs. Borger


The West Plains Lady Wolves kicked off district play in dominant fashion with a sweep of Borger (25-17, 25-16, 25-12).


Leading the way for West Plains were:

  • Taos McGehee – 8 kills

  • Cecilia Murrillo – 23 assists

  • Idaly Sotelo – 12 digs

Canyon Lady Eagles at Pampa

The Canyon Lady Eagles went on the road and handled business with a straight-set sweep of Pampa (25-17, 25-20, 25-17).


The Lady Eagles move to 11-12 overall and 1-0 in district play, while the Lady Harvesters drop to 14-7 on the season and 0-1.


Dumas Lady Demons vs. Hereford

The Dumas Lady Demons battled in three tightly contested sets but fell to Hereford in straight sets (22-25, 22-25, 23-25) to open district play. The loss moves Dumas to 13-14 overall and 0-1 in district.

  • Brooklyn Rose – 7 kills, 4 blocks

  • Haley Winegarner – 7 kills

The Randall Lady Raiders hit the road as they opened district play with a four-set victory at Perryton (25-14, 25-9, 26-28, 25-18).

Abernathy Lady Lopes vs. 3233 Warriors


The Abernathy Lady Lopes battled hard but came up short against the 3233 Warriors, falling in three sets (21-25, 15-25, 24-26).

Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles vs. River Road Lady Cats


The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles, known as the “Heart Attack Kids,” lived up to their nickname once again with a thrilling five-set victory over River Road. Fritch battled back and forth all night before pulling out a nail-biting final set to secure the win (25-18, 21-25, 16-25, 25-21, 17-15).


Idalou Lady Cats vs. Plains


The Idalou Lady Cats shook off a slow start and rallied past Plains in four sets (16-25, 25-21, 25-11, 26-24). The win gives Idalou another strong result as they continue to build momentum.


Trinity Christian Lady Lions vs. Shallowater


The Trinity Christian Lady Lions picked up a quality win, taking down Shallowater in four sets for a 3-1 victory.
