With so many games on the move this week due to weather, we’re breaking things up a bit! 🌧️
This week’s coverage will feature two separate lists, a Thursday Night Slate and a Friday Night Slate.
Now that we’re deep into the season and every district is officially in the thick of district play, this format will let us take a deeper dive into how each matchup impacts the playoff race and the battle for seeding and spots across the area. 🔥🏈

Thursday Night Games
2-5A Division 1
Amarillo High (5-2, 2-1) at Lubbock Coronado (0-8, 0-4) 7 pm
In 5A and 6A playoff seeding matters more than ever as the top 2 teams in each district get to host playoff games, which for the Sandies is the difference between a game at Dick Bivins and a road trip to El Paso. Look for the Sandies to take care of business tonight as they look to stay on course for that rivalry matchup with Tascosa on Nov 7th to be for home field advantage in round 1.
2-5A Division 2
In a rarity we have an entire district slate being played on Thursday night.
Lubbock-Cooper (4-4, 1-3) at Wichita Falls Memorial (5-2, 1-2) 6 pm
This is a must win for the LCP Pirates as a 1-4 start to district play will end any playoff hopes they have. Look for a talented Pirate squad to bounce back strong a week after a heart breaking loss at home to the Palo Duro Dons.
Plainview (3-4, 1-2) at Palo Duro (6-1, 3-0) 7 pm
In one of the better QB matchups of Week 8 we get PD's Julian Reese vs Plainview's Seth Mayberry. The Bulldogs can score points with the best of them but look for the Dons to impose their will on Plainview early tonight and often as Palo Duro clinches a playoff spot with a win!
Wichita Falls Legacy (2-5, 1-2) at Abilene Cooper (5-3, 3-1) 6 pm
The Cougars have been playing inspired football since losing to cross-town rival Wylie and will look to continue that roll tonight against the Leopards. A win for Cooper and it sets up that Nov 6th matchup with Palo Duro as a potential defacto district championship game!
1-2A Division 1
West Texas High (7-0, 2-0) at Sanford-Fritch (3-4, 0-2) 7 pm
The Comanches coming off their epic victory over Panhandle last weekend roll into Fritch tonight to take on an Eagles team who has shown improvement under first year Head Coach Brandon Bennett. Despite those improvements by the Eagles they will be no match for Cayde Winters and the Comanches high powered rushing attack.
4-2A Division 1
Stamford (4-3, 1-1) at TLCA (0-7, 0-2) 7 pm
The Bulldogs get their game vs TLCA out of the way this evening so they can spend their Friday night catching the Cisco vs Hawley matchup. The Eagles are in the midst of a season where offense has been hard to come by only as they have been outscore 381-30, expect this one to be a lot to a little when the final horn blows.
Olney (3-4, 1-1) at Anson (5-2, 0-2) 7 pm
Anson started the season 5-0 but have struggled since district play started going 0-2 versus Hawley and Stamford. Tonight should be a get right game for the Tigers as they look to get back on track and make a run at the playoffs.
5-2A Division 2
Another district where we will see all the games played on Thursday night due to the threat of inclement weather.
Wheeler (5-1, 2-0) at Clarendon (0-7, 0-2) 7 pm
This feels like a trap game for Wheeler, just not sure Clarendon has enough fire power to knock of the Mustangs even if they are looking ahead to next weeks showdown with Wellington.
Shamrock (2-5, 2-0) at Wellington (6-1, 2-0) 7 pm
Shamrock came into district play 0-5 but have found their groove as they have gotten off to a 2-0 start in district and are right in the middle of the playoff chase. All the excitement around the program gets tempered a little tonight though as they are running into a fast and physical Skyrocket team that likes to jump on their opponents early and never look back.
Quanah (3-4, 0-2) at Memphis (2-5, 0-2) 7 pm
This one is a de facto playoff eliminator. Quanah had high hopes after starting the season 3-1 but have dropped 3 straight and will look to rebound tonight against the Cyclones. The Cyclones are looking to get their defense back on track after giving up 50 points in 3 of their last 4 games.
If we miss any game reschedules it's because they didn't get updated on MaxPreps or Dave Campbells Texas Football App.
