Lady Pirates Capture Nita Vannoy Memorial Championship in San Angelo

The Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates continue to shine early in the season, bringing home the Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament Championship in San Angelo after an undefeated weekend of high-level play.

Pool Play Dominance


The Lady Pirates opened the tournament by sweeping their pool with three straight-set wins:


  • Sterling City – 25-19, 28-26

  • Bronte – 25-4, 25-6

  • Lake View – 25-9, 25-10


Pool Play Totals:


  • Konli Johnston – 11 kills, 10 digs, 4 aces

  • Lindsay Haynes – 10 kills, 7 digs, 7 aces

  • Bizzie Goltz – 8 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace

  • Clara Pesterfield – 23 digs, 3 aces

  • Broox Lopez – 46 assists, 12 aces


Championship Run


On Saturday, after earning the quarterfinal bye Cooper powered through two tough tests in bracket play.


  • Semifinal vs Wall – 2-1 (25-17, 16-25, 25-20)

  • Championship vs San Angelo Central – 2-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-17)


The Lady Pirates showed resilience in both matches, bouncing back after dropping a set to secure each win in three.

  • Broox Lopez – 64 assists, 14 kills, 5 aces, 18 digs, 4 blocks

  • Haley McCallick – 21 kills, 13 digs

  • Konli Johnston – 19 kills, 23 digs

Looking Ahead


With the tournament title, the Lady Pirates now sit at 11-4 overall (0-0 district). They’ll open district play Tuesday on the road at Palo Duro.


The win in San Angelo marks another big step for a Cooper team that looks ready to make noise in District 4-5A and beyond.
