The San Angelo Independent School District (SAISD) has announced the cancellation of the highly anticipated San Angelo Relays, originally scheduled for March 14-15. The decision, made public in a press release on Tuesday, was prompted by forecasts of high winds and adverse weather conditions.
The San Angelo Relays, one of Texas' largest and longest-running track and field events, was set to celebrate its 66th year of competition this season. However, due to safety concerns for athletes, coaches, and spectators, SAISD chose to call off the event.
“The weather conditions expected later this week create an unsafe environment for not only competition but for travel as well” said Athletic Director Rodney Chant. “While we regret having to cancel, safety comes first. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and look forward to next year’s event.”
