Eyes on the District Championship
New Home (6-1): It’s a huge night for the Leopards as they celebrate Senior Night at the Jungle, followed by a chance for redemption against the Whirlwinds. The Leopards dropped their first matchup with Floydada 65-62 on the road to open 2025. However, a win tonight would put them in the driver’s seat for the District Championship, already holding a victory over Abernathy and with a chance to add another next Tuesday.
Abernathy (6-1): A win tonight against Post and the Lopes are officially in the playoffs. But the real battle is for the District Championship, as they’re tied at 6-1 with both New Home and Floydada. Abernathy has the slight advantage, with both of their remaining matchups against New Home and Floydada coming at home over the next week.
Floydada (6-1): Like Abernathy and New Home, the Whirlwinds are aiming for the District Championship. They edged out the Leopards 65-62 in Floydada, and now they hit the road to face New Home at the “Jungle.” After that, it’s a critical road trip to Abernathy next Tuesday. A sweep of these two games would put Floydada in the driver’s seat for 2A-D4.
At the Playoff Ticket Window:
New Deal (5-3): A win tonight and the Lions are in. But if they lose, the situation could get tricky, as they close with tough matchups against the 3 teams above them in the standings.
Clinging to Hope:
Tahoka (2-6): The Bulldogs must win tonight against New Deal, then win out while scoreboard watching hoping New Deal drops at least two of their final games. The Bulldogs could have a little room for error with a Friday night matchup with Abernathy looming should New Deal close their season on a 4 game losing streak as they face New Home, Abernathy and Floydada to close the season. But it all starts with a must-win tonight in what’s essentially an elimination game for Tahoka.
Eliminated:
Post (1-7)
Ralls (0-7)
