The Liberty Lady Patriots made history Friday night, securing the program’s first-ever Bi-District Championship with a resounding 8-0 victory over Harmony Science Academy. The dominant performance was a testament to the team’s hard work, resilience, and belief in their ability to compete at the highest level.
From the opening whistle, Liberty set the tempo, executing one of their pre-game goals by finding the back of the net early. By halftime, the scoreboard read 6-0, effectively sealing the result before the second half even began. The offensive onslaught was led by Bella Cavazos, Amelia Martinez, and Aerin Cavazos, each netting a brace. Alyssa Cuevas and Sarah Spencer added a goal apiece to round out the scoring.
The Lady Patriots' attack was complemented by excellent playmaking, with Cuevas dishing out two assists and additional contributions coming from Taylor Gonzalez, Addy Evans, and Emma White. Defensively, Liberty was impenetrable. Goalkeeper Karson Killham recorded two saves in the shutout effort, while the backline, anchored by Amelia Martinez, MJ Beasley, Emily Southwell, and Taegan Bennett, kept Harmony Science Academy from generating any real scoring threats.
After the game, Coach Darden emphasized how significant this win was for her squad.
“This was definitely so big for their confidence,” Darden said. “We knew going into this game that we would be the better team, but being a team who has only had one playoff appearance prior to this definitely added some pressure to the situation. I always emphasize to the girls that they deserve every bit of their success and to play like they’ve been here before— even if they really haven’t! We set two goals for this game: the first was to have a shutout, and the second was to score in the first 20 minutes to set the tone. They achieved both of those with the score being 6-0 at half. I think now that they see how much they belong in this playoff run, we’re only going to see them flourish more the further we go.”
With the victory, Liberty improves to 17-1-3 on the season and will now turn its attention to the Area Round. The Lady Patriots will face Graham on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Abilene. Graham advanced after defeating Borger 3-1 in their Bi-District matchup.
The momentum is with Liberty, and if their dominant performance against Harmony Science Academy is any indication, this historic playoff run may just be getting started.
