I love that it’s playoff season as my phone starts blowing up even more with football talk. With that I thought I would preview a few of the most asked about games. Let’s start with our friends up north in Bushland. These texts haven’t been as much about this weeks game with Kermit but more about the prospect of winning Region 1. The fact that they were chosen by 1/2 of the panel on Dave Campbell’s playoff preview is a testament to the quality of this years squad. It is a team molded in Coach Reynolds pillars of Fast, Physical and Fun!

The foundation of this team starts up front, especially with the dominant left side of their O-Line. Jake White and Holt Humphrey are the epitome of bulldozers plowing the way for the high powered Falcon offense. Tomorrow night will be a great game for Quaid Ferris to get his first playoff start under his belt in preparation for a deep playoff run. Having a stacked backfield headlined by an explosive Slade Perry (the 1st leg of the State Qualifying 4x100 relay) helps take some of the pressure off the passing game, which is just as lethal when you have Ty Purcell out at WR. Purcell is the definition of a triple threat, he can catch, run and pass, which is a lethal weapon to have with Coach Reynolds calling the plays. I think for the Falcons to make their way to Cowboy Stadium you want to see Ty touch the ball a minimum of 12-15 times a game as he is a threat to make a house call every time he does.
For as electric as the offense is this Falcon team hangs it’s hat on it’s defense. We’ve seen some incredible Falcon defenses over the years but this is arguably the best we’ve seen in a LONG time. I can count on 1 hand the number of tackles I have seen Colton Reynolds, Jaxon Fetsch and Colton Strickland miss combined over the years. They not only don’t miss tackles they punish ball carriers and QB’s when they get there. Having Ty Purcell on the back side of that defense separating WR’s from the ball and destroying anyone willing to come over the middle helps too. This last part I almost feel sacrilegious saying because of the reverence I have for Coach Mayfield and our vaunted 10-1 defense but Coach Holt’s willingness to not only make adjustments week to week but within games has made this Falcon defense even better as games go along.
There is a long list of names I should have mentioned as well as this is a deep, veteran Falcon football team primed to make a deep playoff run. Praying they get out to a fast start, get their depth a lot of playoff action and most of all get out 100% healthy tomorrow night! Excited this game is on a Thursday night as we get to get out and see them in person for the first time this year. Next week we will dig more into their Area round matchup.
